What Global Village trips are like While every Global Village trip is different, you can expect to gain once-in-a-lifetime experiences and memories. Itineraries are balanced with plenty of work, rest and free time. During your trip, you will do more than help build houses―you will become part of the local community and participate in cultural activities. If this sounds like an adventure that you would like to be a part of, apply today to join my Global Village team to Bolivia in June 2014. ![]() In fiscal year 2013, Habitat for Humanity served 124,946 families around the world and reached an amazing milestone of building, repairing or rehabilitating 800,000 homes since being founded in 1976. These achievements wouldn't be possible without the help of supporters, volunteers and donors. If you'd like to get involved with Habitat, you can join my Global Village trip as we travel to Cochabamba, Bolivia to help build two Habitat homes with families in need of simple, decent and affordable shelter. Apply online and use code GV14516. On Nov. 6, 2013, Habitat celebrated its 800,000th house built, rehabilitated and repaired. The milestone was marked as Habitat announced that — for the first time in the organization’s history — more than 100,000 families had been served in a single fiscal year. That means, thanks to you, we’ve helped an estimated 4 million people around the world since 1976.
Staff and volunteers, including past and current members of Habitat’s international board of directors, raised the walls of Lawanda Phillips’ house in the Atlanta neighborhood Verbena Place, where ultimately 52 houses will sit. Spurred by the conviction that affordable housing helps break the cycle of poverty, Habitat is on track to reach a new milestone of 1 million families served through new home construction, home renovation or critical home repair by the end of 2015, and to put millions more families on the path to improved shelter.
