I'm starting to research locations for my next Global Village trip and I've decided to choose a country in South America. In 2012, I served in Dominican Republic. This year, I served in Guatemala. I might as well finish strong in the Latin American region! My trip will most likely take place in May or June of 2014. I hope to have the country selected by September and the trip open for applications in October or November. In case you would like to volunteer for a trip before 2014, you can visit habitat.org/gv to view the current work trips.
This weekend I watched a very compelling and heart-warming movie that I found on Netflix. Here's the official description:
"When Sam’s storybook marriage is ripped away by a senseless act of violence, she loses her faith and her will to live. But a life-saving encounter with two children leads to a reunion with Joe, her oldest friend … and begins Sam’s journey back toward God’s unconditional love."
This movie is based on true events and since my Global Village trips are themed with "Love in Action," I felt it was appropriate to share on this blog. It shows how one man is making a difference in the lives of inner-city children and how we can stereotype and profile others by the way they look. Take some time and watch this movie with an open heart and see if God speaks to you about how you can help impact your community.
